When God's Son was on Earth, He promised He would establish His church (Matthew 16:18). He was obviously speaking of a universal entity in this statement, but as one reads through the New Testament, he/she discovers that the church He established (beginning in Acts chapter two) had "representatives"--physical, local congregations.
